Beginning to Believe
We have had a thrilling first half of the year with many activities and group rides while mentoring new ones on their bikes! The Henry County Bike Club participated in the Fast Track Trade Show this winter; The Friends of Philpot Environmental Expo in spring and this summer, The VMNH's Fun Festival! The word is spreading throughout our community about the bike club and people are beginning to believe that they too can ride a bike for fun, fitness and/or transportation!
While gas prices continue to rise across the nation, our city and county is undergoing a revitalization to assure a safe community for cycling. With that being said, we are partnering with Activate M/HC, DRBA, FOP and other local organizations to assist with their missions as it relates to both road and mountain biking.
Significantly, our partnership with Activate is the "yeast" to "Activate" our bike club, school system, Police Departments and other local organizations in creating the exposure, policies as well as infrastructure to assure all the logistics necessary will come to pass for a biker friendly community. We greatly appreciate all that Program Manager, Jeannie Frisco has done in her short tenure with this new organization funded by The Harvest Foundation! While this organization initially is a 3 year program, it has quickly become obvious that a lot of work needs to be done to meet the long-term goals of the grant. We also thank Harvest for their "out of the box" vision in beginning this program and will continue to volunteer our efforts towards assisting this initiative to success.
Please come out and ride with our club! We invite you to become a member and to choose your mentor!! We now have two phases of Beginner Rides. Feel free to email me with questions. See you on the roads & trails soon!
Ride well & stay well!

Trail Building Continues
Fall time Jamison Mill trail building dates are September 13 and October 11 at 9AM sharp. We will clear the corridor by blowing leaves, cutting saplings w/the Corps' chainsaw and move the fallen trees to make way for the Ditch Witch then finish with hand work.
Bring work boots, gloves, long pants, hard hat and loppers if possible. (Don't forget your water bottle and individual snacks) There have been a number of people working to continue the fantastic work already started and we hope you all can join us!! If there will be a good contingent working (must know in advance), I'll provide cooked hot dogs and drinks!
Please call me, Jim Frith, to RSVP or Linda Drage/ Mary Lawson with any questions.
See you soon,
Jim
